This poem is an excerpt a longer piece by Sister Constance Brennan, SC, written for the 1978 Feast Day of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton.

Path with cherry blossom… If we could see
       where the path leads
there would be no surprises.
We would not appreciate
       the friendship of fellow travelers
       if we knew the path

And if we could see the path
       and know the route
why listen so intently
       to the Godsong —

that presence within us
       that makes us look
       when we think we see,
that makes us look above the ordinary,
       beyond the beauty.

And each day
would not be a mystery to us
if the path were clear …
