Sister Takes the Wheel of Mobile Soup Kitchen
June 21: Sr. Kathleen Byrnes was named director of St. John’s Bread and Life’s Mobile Soup (MSK) program that serves families and individuals in impoverished communities in Brooklyn and Queens.  In her new position, Sister Kathleen will supervise the daily operations of the Mobile Soup Kitchen and Social Services to assure good nutrition and quality services. The MSK goes out to two sites daily.

Transfer of Leadership
July 1:  The Congregation officially installed its leadership team for the   term 2007-11.  The occasion was marked by a Liturgy and reception at Mount Saint Vincent.

Congregational Elections
April 28-29: The Sisters voted on their leadership for the next four years. Sr. Dorothy Metz was re-elected President. Sr. Donna Dodge will be the new Assistant to the President. Sr. Dominica Rocchio and Sr. Margaret M. Kelly are new Regional Coordinators on the Council. Sisters Nora Cunningham, Helen McGovern and Margaret M. O'Brien were re-elected to four-year terms as Regional Coordinators.

Sister Honored
April 10-13: Sr. Dominica Rocchio was presented the 2007 C. Albert Koob Award at the National Catholic Education Association Convention in Baltimore. Sister served for 14 years as the Secretary for Education/Superintendent of Schools in the Archdiocese of Newark.

Women Empowered
March 31: The Elizabeth Seton Women's Center in Manhattan celebrated the 10th anniversary of its creation AND the Grand Gathering of Sisters in honor of International Women's Month. The program was held at Hostos Community College in the Bronx.

 


Sister Appointed
March 28: Effective today, Sr. Mary Ann Daly becomes the  

Executive Director of the Sisters of Charity Federation in the Vincentian-Setonian Tradition. The Federation has approximately 4,000 members in 12 independent Congregations in the United States and Canada who trace their roots to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and/ or to St. Vincent De Paul, as well as the five U.S. Provinces of the Daughters of Charity. Sr. Mary Ann assists the Executive Committee in fulfilling the tasks assigned by the members at the

annual meeting. She serves as liaison to various organizations and committees in the Charity Family for the Federation.

Art Exhibit
March 11-29: Sr. Kathleen Aucoin's sculptures were featured in the show "Kinship in Sacred Spaces:  An Exhibit" at the Mariandale Retreat and Conference Center in Ossining, NY.

 

          Assembly 2007

February 16-22:  Elected delegates (Sisters) and             collaborative members (Sisters and Associates) of the Sisters of Charity of New York will gathered to set direction for the Congregation for the next four years.
