Sisters Celebrate Jubilarians

Sept-8-Celebrations-2014-1On September 8, 2014, the Sisters of Charity gathered at the Convent of Mary the Queen to honor Sisters celebrating their 50th, 60th, 65th, 70th, 75th, and 80th Jubilees.

Sister Betty Kolb, administrator of the Convent of Mary the Queen, welcomed all Jubilarians as well as visiting and resident sisters and all guests to the annual Mass.

Leading the entrance procession was Sr. Eileen McGrory, who was celebrating 60 years, and candle bearers Srs. Suzanne Wallin and Kathleen Byrnes, both celebrating 50 years. The Mass was presided by Father Joseph Reynolds. Other Jubilarians participating in the liturgy were Srs. Yolanda, Anne O'Connell, Ann Marie Lagan, and Robert Marie Fimbel, all celebrating 60 years.

At the end of the Mass Sr. Jane Iannucelli read the names of all the Sisters being celebrated as some helpers delivered a yellow rose to each one. I don’t know any Sisters of Charity but I want to say thank you to the 33 sisters for all their years of service. Thank you for the wonderful work you do for the church for so many years. I pray for all of Mother Seton’s branches of sisters everyday. I will be going up to Emmitsburg on Sun for the Annual Sea Services Mass and will say a special prayer for each of the sisters who has jubilees, along with all the Sister of Charity sisters at Mother Seton Altar before or after mass. I know of your works because I had the Daughters of Charity in school. I know you are a branch of Mother Seton’s daughters. I had the opportunity to learn about your order at the Seton Legacy celebration in Emmitsburg, MD in summer of 2009. God Bless all of you for all the work you do everyday:)

Yes, I recoginized Sr. Joan Burbage. She looks so lovely wearing her orange blazer. The other nuns looked so nice too. Thank you Sisters for your years of service.

I remembered Sr. Anne O’Connell and Sr. Eileen McGrory. The both were at Nativity on Dyre Ave in the Bronx when I attended in the 70’s Both nuns are very special and always did an outstanding job. Sr. Anne is always in my heart and she always treated everyone with neverending love. My hats off to them and all the sisters.

Congratulations to Sr Rita Cullen! She was my cousin Barbara O’Connor’s aunt. My cousin passed 41years ago and I lost contact with her side of the family . I would read the obits and jubilees in Catholic New York trying to find out about her. Thank God I found her celebrating her 75th jubilee. God bless her and all the sisters!

    To Sister Robert Marie Fimbel,
I was a counsel in your cottage at Hayden Circle for a couple of years in the early ’70’s. Having just turned 70 I am looking back on my life. I want you and the Sisters of Charity to know that I remember you well. You were a kind and resourceful leader of our cottage. I often wonder how those boys we cared for are doing now. I know that you provided them with the best care and direction.
