These comments on Scripture and on events of our time
flow from the prayerful reflection and rich experience
of our Sisters, Associates and colleagues. We are happy
to offer them to you,
and pray that these words will open your heart
more fully
to the living Word of God. |

Reflection for Ash Wednesday
By Sr. Anita M. Constance, SC
Readings:
Joel 2: 12-18 ~ Psalm 51 ~ 2 Cor. 5: 20-6:2 ~ Matthew 6: 1-6, 16-18
During Lent, the church invites us to make the journey inward. Our destination is God. Our path is transformation. Conversion depends upon our commitment and God’s grace. Yet, it is the grace of God that keeps us in the direction of our desire and goal….
God is always aware of us, always aware of what is still unhealed. In Jesus Christ, God embraces our human limitations. Through Him, God untiringly reaches out, and so we turn with confidence knowing God has already turned to us.
This is a journey we will make again and again. We were not born in pieces, but it takes a lifetime to discover our wholeness – the fullness of God’s original intention. Let us continue the journey…once again.
Sr. Anita, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ,
is the author of Living the Days of Lent 2011,
from which this excerpt is taken,
and several other books of prayer and poetry.
