Hosts Sponsorship Conference
for Ministry Leaders |
In a spirit of collaboration and with a deep sense of history and mission, Sr. Karen Helfenstein, Director of Sponsorship Services, opened the 2012 Sponsorship Conference with this quotation that fittingly summed up the meaning and purpose of the day. The conference was attended by 130 enthusiastic lay and religious ministry leaders.
The goals set for the Conference, held on September 29, 2012 in Smith Hall at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, were to strengthen the network of Sponsored Ministry colleagues, to reflect on the breadth and depth of the ministries, and to focus on the spirituality of leadership. Ministries represented were:
College of Mount Saint Vincent
Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center
Elizabeth Seton Women’s Center
Fox House
Life Experience and Faith Sharing
The New York Foundling
POTS (Part of the Solution)
Sisters Hill Farm
Saint Joseph’s Medical Center
Sisters of Charity Housing Development Corporation
Sisters of Charity Multi-Service Center‚ Casa de Esperanza |
The Conference was facilitated by Sr. Mary Persico, IHM. Working from documents prepared by each sponsored ministry, Sr. Mary noted the strengths and challenges common to all the ministries present. Using metaphors, she underscored the fact that the Sisters of Charity ministries have provided compassionate care and service to those in need for almost 200 years and in the hands of future generations, that tradition will continue.
The intention going forward is to formalize education and formation of leadership and boards to sustain the vitality of the mission. Preliminary plans are underway for the 2013 Sponsorship Conference. |
