Holy Thursday stirs a holy desire to live Jesus’ way of loving service and his total reversal of power. We are overwhelmed with gratitude that his desire to be present and working in us always has given us the gift of Eucharist. “This body will be given for you,” he tells us.
On Good Friday the reality of those words pierces our defenses. We face truth. Our world is unjust, and we are part of the unjust structures. Jesus is victim, and so are many among us. Truth demands that we stand with Jesus for them. Living through these days forms us as church to live in truth. Each year we know it more deeply….
May we also come to know resurrection….We truly want to be an alleluia people, able to sing in the face of death, to trust that we and our loved ones will rise with Jesus. We wish to clear out the old yeast of malice and wickedness to live in sincerity and truth. We desire to work for peace so that all may live in the light of Christ. Such is the formation we experience in these days of the Paschal Mystery.

During the course of the few days I was at the Mount [in the summer of 2008], I realized how strong was the bond that I felt…. I felt like someone had turned a light on for me, and I saw that God, at last, was showing me the long-sought means to further my spiritual growth and to be in communion with others on the same path.

The Sisters of Charity of New York seek to “renew the face of the earth” while following the traditions of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Sisters of Charity are called to be “visible, effective risk takers standing with and for the poor.”….
When I was a student, I often looked at the cross on the grounds of Mount Saint Vincent that said, “The Charity of Christ Impels Us.” I very strongly feel Christ’s charity and feel compelled to help those in need. In my own adult life, I have experienced Christ’s charity through the love and generosity of the Sisters of Charity who helped me and nurtured me during the darkest time in my life. I carry Christ’s love in me and wish to share it with the poor, for whom a solid education is a stepping stone to a better life. Sharing a spiritual life with the Sisters of Charity can only strengthen my fervent desire to share Christ’s charity with the poor.
