How do we pray today? What do we pray about?
We pray in and through the desires of our hearts and the work of our hands.
We pray in the words of our lips and the gestures of our bodies.
We pray by contemplating God's revelation in Scripture and in the experiences of each day.
We pray alone, in small groups, in large gatherings of worship.
We pray where we live and where we work, at congregational gatherings and with God's people whom we serve.

Mission calls us to the needs of our time: peacemaking, forming community across differences, tending the Earth, being for the poor and marginalized among us, renewing the life of the Church.

We wake early in the mornings to the twitters of the song birds greeting the mist settling over the fields.... Slowly the sun creeps in, the plants wake up and the day starts rolling with energy. The calm mornings allow us to reflect on all the constant change and wonderful growth around here.... We have had several group volunteer parties and gatherings this season. Every time I have been filled with a great sense of community and positive energy.... I am grateful to be part of such a vibrant and exciting community.

The early community began in great physical difficulty and privation. I wonder if that very struggle served to bond these women even more deeply. Some of us will say that our happiest missions were ones that had few “extras” and even some privations. Faced with such problems, Elizabeth Seton called upon her inner reserves of loving compassion for those in her charge and taught them the necessary lessons of loving relationships which made their budding community a successful one. With their shared community and ministry they were attractive to the young women who asked to join them.  Maybe we can hear echoes of our own lives in that experience.

We Sisters of Charity have faith in our hearts that healing is always possible, and in circumstances like these [the aftermath of decades of violence and poverty in Quiché, Guatemala], healing is a goal worth working for…. Our long history in Guatemala has taught us that, even in the worst of circumstances, God provides new avenues of hope and healing.
