How do we pray today? What do we pray about?
We pray in and through the desires of our hearts and the work of our hands.
We pray in the words of our lips and the gestures of our bodies.
We pray by contemplating God's revelation in Scripture and in the experiences of each day.
We pray alone, in small groups, in large gatherings of worship.
We pray where we live and where we work, at congregational gatherings and with God's people whom we serve.

When I have too much to do,
help me to turn to you, my God.
Give me insight into what is important at this moment –
Grant me courage to face challenges…
compassion as I listen to others…
perseverance to tackle difficult tasks…
peace in all things.
Above all, help me, my God, to remember
that it is your work that I am about –
not mine. Amen.

How rich life is when we are mindful of our abundance and live each day with gratitude. When life overflows with gratitude, it becomes a shining light illuminating all who approach. Sorrows become bearable in this light. Dreams, like mosaics, shine with myriad possibilities.

Having the wisdom to be grateful is itself a gift of God. It enables us to walk unafraid into an unknown future in the sure knowledge that:

  • We are bathed in God’s love.
  • God goes before us and at the same time walks with us.
  • It is the way itself that is to be treasured.

How do we truly comprehend the wonder of God’s Love, poured out always and forever to all people – to the universe?....Aren’t we, each and every one of us, God’s love made flesh? Did we not know that truth in the persons we remember today  – persons of deep faith and commitment – who lived their lives joyfully, zestfully, compassionately, fervently, honestly, and humorously.

They recognized the foibles of daily life in themselves - in others and in the mystery that was and is relationship….They wrapped themselves tightly in the cloak of charity and strove to give love freely and completely….

They were flesh and blood people and, as such, knowing that they would fall short many times - and that God would make up the difference for them - they strove daily to live lives of love with and for those they served so faithfully and well.  And so, during their lifetimes, they rose each day filled with new energy and hope - hope that, for them, has sprung into eternity.
