….I look out into this little universe,
Blue green, black,
Gray, brown, hazel,
Eyes mirror back at me;
Relevant confusion, right answers,
Anguish of love, anguish of unlove,
Irrelevant homework done.

It never ceases to amaze me when I read the early beginnings of the lives of people like Vincent, Louise, Ignatius, Augustine, etc. How very human they were! It certainly attests to the power of God’s grace in people’s lives. How very fortunate I have been for God to interfere in mine.

Hugging is a great gift because one size fits all, and the sick, the unkempt, the lonely, the mentally challenged, as well as our healthy sisters and brothers in Christ, all need frequent hugs.

How do I live each moment? I try to remember our own story of service to the poor. From the start we tackled education with recognition of need, with confidence in our own good will, with great reliance on God’s power to assist when our hearts were open and our spirit willing to take risks. The above applies to other works in health services and child care….
[I] offer my encouragement and support to those who are today “feeding the hungry” in a fractured world…. All of us need to be reminded that “there is fire in the ashes” and “I am with you always.” Then may we look to the future with joyful hearts!
