Here are the aspects of apostolic life upon which we base our vocation as Sisters of Charity:
- Prayer - We meet God and those whom we serve in both our communal and personal prayer. We listen deeply to what we hear through the events and experiences of our lives.
- Belonging and Community - Belonging is the single most important characteristic of the life of the Sister of Charity: belonging to God in love, and belonging to the poor in whom we see the face of Jesus. Sisters of Charity believe that God's love brings them together in community to support and affirm each other for the sake of the mission. Shared prayer, communal meals, celebrations, the joys and sorrows of ministry and family life - all these experiences enhance the faith of our individual lives and bear witness to our living community.
- Ministry - Our ministries in 17th century France by Saints Vincent de Paul and Louise de Marillac and continued by Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, were for the compassionate care of the poor, the sick, orphaned infants and children, elderly and homeless persons, victims of war and the illiterate. Ministry has taken on many forms since then, as we respond in love to the gospel imperatives and the signs of our times. For us, ministry is always characterized by compassion, respect for those whom we serve and excellence.
