Our farmer Dave Hambleton and volunteers   harvest a crop at Sisters Hill.

Sisters Hill Farm is a 200-member organic farm sponsored by the Sisters of Charity; its mission is "to grow healthy food which nurtures bodies, spirits, communities and the earth." The farm was established in Stanfordville, NY in 1998 to further our commitment to ecological property management. Our farm provides nutritious, chemical-free, organic food at a reasonable cost. The farm also offers shareholders an opportunity to grow in friendship and mutual support of the earth. It is one of about 1,000 Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) projects in North America.

U.S. farming is in a critical state. Small farms are rapidly disappearing, and agribusiness with its chemical intensive, industrialized methods of crop production, is rapidly replacing agriculture. Only 2% of Americans actually produce food for the other 98%. People are increasingly separated from their food sources and from the vital relationships that connect people, food, soil and health. CSAs offer a creative response to concerned people, who are not able to grow their own food. By mutually supporting Sisters Hill Farm, our shareholders have the opportunity to take greater responsibility for their food, as well as their social and community relationships.

Part of the farm's mission is to share a portion of our weekly harvest with those in need. We donate part of the crops to individual families, soup kitchens and organizations that serve the materially poor. These food donations are a natural extension of the Sisters of Charity's service to the poor.
