A crisp, beautiful, perfect autumn day awaited golfers at the 2011 Sisters of Charity Golf Outing at the North Hempstead Country Club on October 6, 2011. This event, which assists us with the needs of our senior sisters in our retirement facilities, was blessed with the support of our friends and benefactors, all who enjoyed a wonderful day of golf, gourmet food and warm friendship.
Golfers headed to the greens at noon |
Golfers began the day with a wonderful breakfast buffet and then took a short time to practice their putting before heading out to the beautiful and challenging North Hempstead Country Club golf course. Sister Jane Iannucelli was on hand to wish the golfers well and thank them for their support before they drove off in their carts and headed
for the course.
The Contests...
Five contests situated throughout the course provided challenges and laughs for golfers and volunteers alike. "On-The-Green‚" at hole #2 awarded 34 lucky/skilled golfers with a sleeve of Titleist golf balls for landing on the green in one shot. Gift certificates to the club's pro shop were awarded for closest to pin at hole #6, longest drive at hole #10, and 1st and 2nd place low gross and low net (all with men's and women's categories). The most exciting contest of the day was at hole#17, where a hole-in-one would be rewarded with a blue 2011 Toyota Camry that was sitting on the course waiting to be driven home. During the afternoon golfers were beckoned by the alluring aroma of the barbecue being prepared near the clubhouse, providing golfers a tasty lunch and an opportunity for conversation with fellow golfers, volunteers and sisters.

A cocktail reception and dinner followed a prefect day on the golf course. Prizes were awarded to golfers and raffles were drawn for many items, including two Apple iPads.
A warm welcome was extended by all to our senior sisters in attendance as well as to our new leadership team, which included Sisters Eileen McGrory, Kathy Byrnes, MaryAnn Daly, Mary Kay Finneran, and Dominica Rocchio. Much to everyone’s enjoyment, the day ended with a dessert bar that included cakes, pies, Italian pastries, cookies and even ice cream sundaes.
The wonderful support of our friends and benefactors made the 2011 Sisters of Charity Golf Outing another wonderful success, and the hard work of our many volunteers and staff helped create a day to remember. We are truly grateful to all that made this day possible and look forward to welcoming golfers back in 2012! Click to view the photo gallery » |
