Christmas, God’s gift to us, soon becomes January, a new year of grace. It is a time to begin anew, to give thanks for Light – the light of Christ, born among us, revealed to all people. Linked with the feast of Epiphany is our special feast of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, January 4.
From centuries ago, the words of our founders still resound, full of wisdom and insight for today. Saints Elizabeth Ann Seton, Vincent de Paul, and Louise de Marillac walk with us in the radiant light of Christ. |

ST. ELIZABETH ANN SETON
Christmas day is begun - the day of our dear Redeemer’s birth here…is the day that opened to us the door of everlasting life – Yes he [her dying husband William] said, “and how I wish we could have the Sacrament” – well we must do all we can, and putting a little wine in a glass, I said different portions of Psalms and Prayers…and we took the cup of Thanksgiving (Italian Journal, Dec. 25, 1803)
Go in spirit to the Manger…and make your profession of faith at the feet of your Infant saviour – adore the Eternal Word in his silence, his almighty power in his weakness – the God of Heaven in a stable – |

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
I hate uncertainty as much as you do, but what is really important to us is to govern our lives not by our hatred of uncertainty but by indifference, by which we are open to what God wants. Let us then try to grow in indifference. |

ST. LOUISE DE MARILLAC
The love of God for [hu]mankind willed that the Son should take human flesh because His delight is to be among His creatures. By becoming like them, He could bear witness to the fact that God has loved them from all eternity. This He did throughout His human life upon earth.
Therefore, let us love this love and we will thereby grasp its endlessness since it depends in no way on us.
You will learn from Jesus, my dear Sisters, to practice solid virtue, as He did in His holy humanity, as soon as He came down upon earth. It is from the example of Jesus in His infancy that you will obtain all that you need to become true Christians.
