Medieval writer Meister Eckhart tells us, "If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is 'Thank you,' it will be enough."
A classic by contemporary spiritual writer Brother David Stendl-Rast is titled, "Gratefulness: the Heart of Prayer."
Thomas Merton calls us to meet Christ in persons on the margins: "With those for whom there is no room, Christ is present in the world. He is mysteriously present in those for whom there seems to be nothing but the world at its worst."
Venerable Dorothy Day echoes this challenge to welcome persons living in poverty: "It is no use saying that we are born 2,000 years too late to give room to Christ. Nor will those who live at the end of the world have been born too late. Christ is always with us, always asking for room in our hearts."
