Winter Tree

January finds us still savoring the light of Christmas. The Feast of the Epiphany widens the horizons of our hearts with the message that God’s saving love is for all.

From centuries ago, the words of our founders still resound, full of wisdom and insight for today. Let us call upon Saints Vincent de Paul, Louise de Marillac, and Elizabeth Ann Seton, whose feast we celebrated on January 4, to accompany us into a new year of grace.

ST. ELIZABETH ANN SETON
Loving you in God I cannot speak any other language – that we may be happy in the ages of Eternity is the fervent New Year wish of your affectionate friend.

The last, the first and every day of the year my thoughts and time are yours.

This holy season [Epiphany] was precisely the time that the divine Light of Faith which I so long resisted forced its way with an overwhelming power which made me to see and taste its infinite sweetness.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
Jesus Christ was the sovereign Lord, and yet during the time He lived with Mary and Joseph He did nothing without their advice. I would ask you to honor this mystery by acting accordingly, so that God will lead you and aid you.

ST. LOUISE DE MARILLAC
The Crib is the throne of the Kingdom of Holy Poverty in which I ardently desire to be a subject, since the King of the Poor loved this virtue above all others. He proved this by allowing only the truly poor and simple to recognize him.
