Molly Horton, circa 1941.

When Helen Horton entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in February 1946, the entertainment world was shocked. As a new high school graduate, Helen had walked into the Stork Club, auditioned, and won a singing job at the illustrious night spot! The Hotel Pierre came next, and Helen seemed to be on her way to nightclub stardom. However, God and Helen had other plans. As her autobiography tells us, she left this fame and glitter for the life of a Sister of Charity.

Helen took her love for singing with her. Only now she was teaching little children songs for their First Holy Communion, singing at religious celebrations and in parishes, and loving every minute of it.

In 1967 she was chosen to be Program Director of the Archdiocesan Instructional Television Studio in Yonkers, a position she held until her retirement in 1997. In this position, Helen assisted the Director, Sister Irene Fugazy SC, in putting the studio on the technological map. Helen took great pride in choosing programs that would be shown in Catholic schools throughout the Archdiocese.

To all who knew her Helen became known for her smile, graciousness and ability to talk with anyone she met. To her, each person was special and was remembered by her with prayers and notes. On Sunday, January 8, Helen left this life in the 66th year of her service as a Sister of Charity. She will be missed, remembered, and loved.
